Pacific Patrol Boats Project (PPBP)
There is a strong commitment from the Chiefs in relation to the PPBP. The initial focus of the project was to support and promote interagency cooperation, whilst broadening the focus of the PB’s to wider law enforcement issues. This focus included the promotion of the Pacific Transnational Crime Network (PTCN) as an intelligence flow to address the issue of transnational crime through avenues such as the PPB’s.
The continuation of the PPBP into 2007/2008 reinforces the commitment from PICP members. The project continues to expand the initial focus through information and training initiatives. The three relevant parts in relation to this project for 2008/09 include issues identified with regards to legislative frameworks within which the PPB’s operate in the enforcement of maritime crime, Engagement of Larger Vessels at Sea and Training of Patrol Boat staff (It is important that PB crews are equipped with the necessary skills needed to meet the ever expanding requirements of their job).
